Homemade Dog Treat

Love your dog? Show your favorite pet some extra care and affection by baking them fresh snacks using the healthiest ingredients in a homemade dog treat.  With today's variety and very commercialized pet food, it is sometimes hard to keep track of the continuously changing ingredients used by manufacturers for dog treats.  What can be deemed safe today may be found with unfavorable health effects tomorrow -plus, there's the question of unnecessary chemicals and dyes being used.

So what's a good way to ensure your buddy gets the best?  Homemade dog treats made by you.  If you think it's easier said than done, you may be surprised at how easy-to-follow dog treat recipes can be.   Not to mention baking your best friend's snack is both enjoyable and rewarding, plus you're a hundred percent sure they're quality, healthy, and safe.

There are lots of great recipes for homemade dog treats that are all over the Internet.  When baking your own homemade dog treat, always remember that there are some ingredients that are not safe for dogs, and keep in mind that your dog has a different digestive system from yours, so be sure you appropriately choose the recipe.  You may want to start with basic biscuits, and explore ways of spicing them up.  Check out this

biscuit recipe for your homemade dog treat:

Preheat the oven to 325ºF.  Combine the following ingredients in a bowl: 1 pack of dry yeast and 3-¼ cups of warm water or meat broth.  Set aside for the yeast to activate.  In a separate bowl, combine the following ingredients: three cups of unbleached flour, 2-¼ cups of whole wheat flour, 2/3 cup of powdered milk, and 1 ¼ cups of cornmeal.

Pour the "liquid/yeast" combination into the bowl with dry ingredients, and mix till its dough pulls away from the bowl's sides.  Place the dough onto flat "lightly-floured" surface or cutting board, then pat or roll into about ¼ -inch thickness.  Slice dough into rectangular shapes or cut using cookie cutter.  Place the cut dough onto non-stick cookie sheet, and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or till well set.  Turn off oven, but leave biscuits inside for at least 12 hours to allow drying.

Adding favorite flavorings of your dog such as bacon bits, beef base, liver paste, honey, chicken base, peanut butter, and others can enhance the recipe.  There's also no rule of shaping the biscuits like bones, as they can be festive even in the simplest shape.

Homemade dog treats are easy, inexpensive, and great ways of providing your dogs with a healthy and delicious treat.
